This DD Superlight bundle gives you the 3 essential items needed to start hammock camping. You get the hammock, tarp, and mosquito net - that's everything required for comfortable nights in the trees. The whole kit weighs under 1kg and packs down incredibly small, making it perfect for hikers who need to keep pack weight low.
We've tested this exact combination on multi-day hikes across the Scottish Highlands, Welsh valleys, and Lake District trails. Each item in this bundle has been chosen because it's genuinely lightweight and reliable. The DD Superlight Hammock weighs just 290g, the DD Superlight Tarp gives you 3x3m of waterproof coverage at 460g, and the DD Superlight Mosquito Net keeps the bugs out at just 180g.
Backpackers: When you're carrying everything on your back for days, every gram matters. This 3-item system replaces a tent that would weigh twice as much and take up more pack space. We've used this setup on 5-day Lake District circuits where pack weight is critical.
Long Distance Hikers: Whether you're doing the West Highland Way or multi-day routes in the Pennines, this kit lets you sleep comfortably without the weight penalty of traditional camping gear. The system has been tested in 40mph winds on exposed Scottish ridges.
Wild Campers: For those who camp in remote spots across Scotland, Wales, and Northern England, hammock camping means you can set up anywhere there are trees - no need to find flat ground. We've used this on boggy Highland terrain where ground camping isn't practical.
Bushcraft Enthusiasts: This lightweight setup leaves more room in your pack for bushcraft tools and lets you practice skills without being weighed down by heavy camping gear. The tarp's multiple attachment points allow various configurations for different weather conditions.
The complete system weighs 930g - that's less than most sleeping bags. Here's how each item packs based on our field measurements:
Compare this to a 2-person tent (usually 2-3kg) plus sleeping mats, and you'll save significant weight and pack space for food and other essentials. On a 7-day hike, this weight saving means you can carry an extra day's food.
This isn't a kit with loads of extras you don't need. It's the 3 fundamental items that make hammock camping work: something to sleep in, something to keep the rain off, and something to keep bugs away.
You don't need to buy anything else to get started. The hammock comes with suspension (7/64" Amsteel whoopie slings and tree huggers), the tarp includes 2mm reflective guy lines, and everything packs into its own silnylon stuff sack.
Summer Camping (Above 10°C): In UK summer months or warm climates abroad, this 3-item system is all you need for comfortable nights. We've used this setup comfortably in 15°C Highland summer nights.
Colder Conditions (Below 10°C): For spring, autumn, or winter camping, you'll want to add insulation. The DD Jura 2 sleeping bag (rated to -2°C) works well, or for dedicated hammock camping, the DD Hammock Quilt with DD Underblanket gives you proper top and bottom insulation down to -5°C when combined.
You can choose different colours for the tarp and hammock based on our field experience:
Proven on UK Trails: DD Hammocks gear is used by hikers on every major UK trail. We've tested this specific combination on the Pennine Way, West Highland Way, and Coast to Coast path. It handles Scottish weather, Welsh rain, and English summers without problems.
Actually Lightweight: Unlike some "lightweight" gear that's still heavy, this system genuinely saves weight compared to tent camping while being more comfortable. The 20D ripstop nylon construction provides the right balance of weight and durability.
Simple Setup: No complicated instructions or special techniques needed. Average setup time is 5 minutes in good conditions, 8 minutes in wind and rain based on our field tests.
Reliable Materials: The tarp's 3000mm PU coating has been tested in 48-hour Scottish downpours without leakage. The hammock's 20D ripstop nylon won't tear easily (we've tested it with sharp rocks and branches), and the mosquito net mesh is fine enough to keep Highland midges out.
This bundle gives you the foundation. For additional gear and seasonal accessories, check our hammock camping starter packages or browse our complete hammock camping section, where we've put together everything you might need based on years of field testing.

Wylies Outdoor World's owner Drew has been hammock camping for over 10 years across UK trails and has personally tested every item in this bundle in real conditions. From -5°C Highland winters to 25°C Lake District summers, this gear combination has been proven reliable. If you need advice on getting started with hammock camping or choosing the right setup, get in touch.
Yes, for summer conditions above 10°C. You get the hammock (with 7/64" Amsteel suspension included), waterproof tarp with 3000mm coating, and ultra-fine mosquito net. That's the complete system for warm weather camping based on our field testing.
For UK camping outside summer, add a sleeping bag like the DD Jura 2 (rated to -2°C) or go for dedicated hammock insulation with the DD Hammock Quilt and DD Underblanket (combined rating to -5°C).
The complete system weighs 930g. Most 2-person tents weigh 2-3kg before you add sleeping mats (another 400-600g). You're looking at saving 1.5-2.5kg minimum, often more.
The hammock is 270cm long, which works for most people up to about 6'2" (188cm). We've tested this with users up to 6'1" with comfortable results. The tarp gives good coverage for the full hammock length.
It has a 3000mm PU coating, which we've tested in 48-hour Highland downpours without leakage when set up with proper tension. Much more reliable than many lightweight tents in sustained rain.
Absolutely. The hammock comes ready to hang with whoopie slings and tree huggers included. Average setup time for beginners is 10-15 minutes initially, dropping to 5-8 minutes with practice. No special skills needed.
Any healthy trees about 15-20cm diameter or larger, spaced 3-5 meters apart. We've tested on oak, pine, birch, and beech trees across UK woodlands. Avoid dead or diseased trees for safety.
Perfect for it. We've used this setup on 7-day expeditions where the weight saving and pack size reduction compared to tent camping means more room for food and essentials on longer trips. The durability holds up to daily setup and takedown.
