The DD Hammocks Tarp 2x2 is the most compact tarp in the DD range, measuring 2m x 2m and weighing 410g. This square tarp provides 4 square metres of coverage for solo ground bivvy camping, DD Junior Frontline Hammock shelter, or as a groundsheet. Made from 190T polyester with 3000mm waterproof PU coating. Available in Olive Green only.
IMPORTANT: Not recommended for adult hammock camping due to small size. Works for DD Junior Frontline Hammock or ground bivvy camping only.
| Tarp | Size | Coverage | Weight | Material | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Superlight Tarp Small | 2.8m x 1.5m | 4.2 sq m | 260g | 20D ripstop nylon | Ultralight bivvy, lightest option |
| Tarp 2x2 (This Product) | 2m x 2m | 4 sq m | 410g | 190T polyester | Compact bivvy, square shape |
| Tarp Small | 2.8m x 1.5m | 4.2 sq m | 450g | 190T polyester | Solo bivvy, heavier fabric |
| Tarp Medium | 2.9m x 3m | 8.7 sq m | 790g | 190T polyester | Solo hammock or bivvy, most coverage |
The Tarp 2x2 is the most compact with a square 2m x 2m shape. The Superlight Tarp Small is the lightest. The Tarp Small provides slightly more coverage. The Tarp Medium provides the most coverage and works for adult hammock camping.
The 2m x 2m square dimensions make the Tarp 2x2 the most compact tarp in the DD range, providing 4 square metres of coverage. The square shape differs from the rectangular Tarp Small (2.8m x 1.5m, 4.2 square metres), offering equal dimensions in all directions.
The square shape provides more setup flexibility than rectangular tarps because all sides are equal length. This makes it easier to orient the tarp in any direction for A-frame, diamond, or lean-to configurations. The compact 2m x 2m size packs smaller than larger tarps, making it suitable for minimalist camping where pack size matters.
The Tarp 2x2 weighs 410g excluding pegs and guy lines. The total system weight including 4 pegs and guy lines is approximately 510g. This is 150g heavier than the Superlight Tarp Small (260g) but 40g lighter than the Tarp Small (450g).
The 190T polyester fabric with 3000mm waterproof PU coating is the same material used across the standard DD tarp range. The heavier fabric provides the same waterproof protection as ultralight nylon without requiring as much care to avoid punctures from sharp objects.
The 2m x 2m size works well as a shelter for the DD Junior Frontline Hammock, which is designed for children. The compact coverage is adequate for a junior hammock without excess material that would add unnecessary weight. Children can learn to set up the tarp in A-frame or diamond configurations in seconds, making it suitable for teaching outdoor skills.
The 2x2 is too small for adult hammock camping. For adult hammocks, choose the Tarp Medium (2.9m x 3m, 8.7 square metres) which provides proper coverage for adult hammock setups.
The Tarp 2x2 works for ground bivvy camping where you sleep directly on the ground under a tarp without a tent. The 4 square metres provides coverage for one person and minimal gear in lean-to or A-frame configurations. The compact size makes it suitable for minimalist bivvy camping where you want the smallest possible shelter.
The tarp also works as a groundsheet, providing a waterproof barrier between your sleeping mat and the ground. The 2m x 2m size covers a sleeping mat with some overhang for gear, making it practical for bivvy camping or as a tent footprint.
The 9 reinforced attachment points (8 around sides and corners, 1 central for ridgeline) provide setup options for the compact size. The attachment points enable A-frame, diamond, and lean-to configurations suited for ground bivvy camping and junior hammock shelters. The 9 points are fewer than the 19 points on larger tarps, limiting some advanced configurations but adequate for basic setups.
Choose the Tarp 2x2 when you want the most compact square shape for minimalist bivvy camping. The 2m x 2m dimensions pack smaller than larger tarps while providing 4 square metres of coverage.
Choose the Tarp 2x2 for DD Junior Frontline Hammock shelter. The compact size is adequate for junior hammocks without excess material.
Choose the Tarp 2x2 when you prefer a square shape over rectangular tarps. The equal dimensions provide more setup flexibility than rectangular shapes.
Choose the Superlight Tarp Small (260g) if you prioritize minimum weight. Choose the Tarp Small (450g, 4.2 square metres) for slightly more coverage. Choose the Tarp Medium (790g, 8.7 square metres) for adult hammock camping or more coverage.
Pair this tarp with guy lines and stakes for securing the tarp. Use DD Cord or Amsteel Rope for ridgelines in A-frame setups. For bivvy camping, combine with a bivvy bag or sleeping bag.
The 2m x 2m size (4 square metres) is too small for adult hammock camping. The compact coverage does not provide adequate protection for adult hammock setups. For adult hammocks, choose the Tarp Medium which provides proper coverage.
The 9 attachment points are fewer than the 19 points on larger tarps, limiting some advanced setup configurations. The compact size is adequate for basic bivvy camping but feels tight compared to larger tarps.
The 410g weight is 150g heavier than the Superlight Tarp Small (260g). If you prioritize minimum weight for ultralight bivvy camping, the Superlight provides similar coverage at lower weight.
Shake off dirt and debris after use before packing. Allow the tarp to dry completely before long-term storage to prevent mildew. Rinse with clean water if muddy and hang to dry before packing.
Inspect attachment points and seams regularly for wear. Store the tarp loosely rolled or hung rather than compressed tightly for extended periods. Avoid campfires directly under the tarp or too close to edges, as the polyester fabric melts and burns when exposed to sparks or flame.
Wylies Outdoor World's owner Drew has personally tested every DD Hammocks product over almost a decade, using them 4 nights a week in the best and worst weather the UK has to offer. This extensive field testing provides real-world knowledge of when the Tarp 2x2 makes sense versus other small tarp options.
