Description

Standing on the top of a mountain without a care in the world is what mountaineering is all about, reaching the top. With System Dual Protection technology, these Keela Alpine Advance Trousers will help you get there.

Keela uses an outer fabric, which is coated or laminated with a breathable membrane, and teams it with a mesh lining, which has a high-wicking hydrophilic (water-loving) membrane laminated to it. These two layers of fabric create an air gap providing a natural thermal barrier, protecting against heat loss, and reducing the need for bulky layers.

The hydrophilic membrane rapidly transports moisture (sweat and condensation) away from the body, keeping you dry and comfortable, even in the rain. The combination of the air gap and wicking process regulates body temperature, minimizing overheating when active and shivering during inactive periods, keeping you safe and comfortable throughout your adventure.

Pro-stretch

Combining a water and windproof, breathable fabric with a four-way stretch movement. The Pro-stretch fabric is perfect for high activity sports where freedom of movement is essential. The softshell outer of the Keela Alpine Advance Trousers gives maximum comfort whilst maintaining protection from the elements.

Fabric Technology:

Keela Fabric 1

SDP was originally developed for use in Military applications and has gone on to be used by Tactical Forces, Mountain Rescue, and Emergency Services requiring performance clothing that works as hard as they do.

It has become a popular choice with the outdoor community and has been used to conquer the world’s toughest mountain summits and survive the harshest Arctic conditions.

In recognition of SDP’s success, Keela was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation, one of the UK’s most prestigious awards, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the categories of international trade, innovation, and sustainable development. Keela is grateful for the recognition of their innovations and continues to further develop System Dual Protection to ensure our customers know they can face the elements with confidence and comfort.

Ever felt wet inside your waterproof clothing?

Just like condensation on a window or in your car, your jacket can build up moisture on the inside.

You’ve seen it before, you find your new jacket has moisture inside after a good half hour of physical exertion.

But why?

Although it may look and feel as though your jacket is letting in water, the moisture is caused by condensation building up inside.

Think about your car windscreen on a cold day… fogging up due to the temperature difference between the inside and the outside – force ventilation is needed to clear the moisture.

Just like that, no waterproof garments breathe in wet or cold conditions, no matter what marketing hype may tell you. Breathability claims can be made, but with the international test standards being set in dry conditions at 21°C and above, the results are far removed from the conditions in which we expect our products to perform.

Keela Fabric

What is System Dual Protection?

Here at Keela, we have developed our award-winning System Dual Protection (SDP) which uses a simple 2-layer concept that manages inner condensation accumulating inside the garments during wet and cold conditions.

SDP features a tough and durable 100% waterproof outer layer, which can handle wear and tear whilst protecting you from the elements, and a lightweight inner layer laminated with a hydrophilic (water-loving) membrane that rapidly transports the moisture (sweat and condensation) away from the body, keeping you dry and comfortable.

With this 2-layer system, an “Air Gap” is created which helps to build warmth, allowing for the body’s temperature to be regulated, minimizing shivering when inactive.

System Dual Protection is used by Emergency Services & Mountain Rescue and is a popular choice with the outdoor community.

Keela fitting guidance chart

Keela's range is used for everything from running and cycling to conquering mountains, and each item is designed to work best in a specific scenario.
However this can mean that our items fit differently from each other, depending on what you are using them for, and your own personal preferences!

For example, if you’re usually a size M and have one of our base layers in a size M and decide you really MUST have a Keela Munro Jacket for walking your dogs in the pouring rain – if you aren’t planning on wearing multiple bulky layers with the Munro, you’re likely to find the size M too big – this is because it’s designed to survive trips up mountains in the most extreme conditions, where you would need to wear a wicking baselayer, maybe a microfleece, and a thicker fleece or thermal jacket. If you’re not going to wear these layers, you’ll have a lot of extra space!

Still confused? Don’t worry! We’ve added icons to our product pages to let you know how the item fits, and you can follow the extra guidance below to help you decide if you should stick to your normal size, or choose a size up or down.
